What Is a Day Master?

Your Day Master (日主) is the single most important element in your BaZi chart. It's the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar — the element that represents you. Everything else in your chart is read in relation to it.

Think of it as your operating system. Two people might both have a lot of Fire in their chart, but a Wood Day Master experiences that Fire very differently from a Metal Day Master. Your Day Master is the lens through which all other energies are filtered.

How to Find Your Day Master

Your Day Master is determined by your date of birth — specifically, the day you were born mapped to the Chinese calendar. Each day is assigned one of 10 Heavenly Stems:

Day MasterElementPolarity
甲 (Jiǎ)WoodYang
乙 (Yǐ)WoodYin
丙 (Bǐng)FireYang
丁 (Dīng)FireYin
戊 (Wù)EarthYang
己 (Jǐ)EarthYin
庚 (Gēng)MetalYang
辛 (Xīn)MetalYin
壬 (Rén)WaterYang
癸 (Guǐ)WaterYin

The fastest way to find yours is to use a BaZi calculator — enter your birth date and it maps it to the Chinese calendar instantly.
